What is the A2 licence?

The A2 licence is the restricted full motorcycle licence which can be done from the age of 19 with a valid CBT.

This licence doesn't limit to you to engine size, but rather the power output the vehicle produces and the power to weight ratio.

You are limited to 47 BHP although vehicles over this can be restricted down, up to a maximum of94BHP.

Example: A 2002 Suzuki Bandit 600 produces 78 BHP which is under 94 BHP but over 47 BHP, so would require restricting down.

Another example: A 2003 Yamaha R6, a similar in-line 4 600cc engine, but produces 115 BHP therefore cannot be rode on the A2 licence as it is over 94 BHP and wouldn't be able to be restricted down legally.

(Power on the licence is measured in KW rather than BHP up to 35kW and a power-to-weight ratio of not more than 0.2kW per kg)
